Current Announcements for Sunday, July 18, 2010

Ø      TODAY!  There will be a meeting of the congregation following the late service this morning.  This meeting is being held in order to authorize the Council to begin repairs on the Sunday School classrooms as well as other building upgrades.  Please be sure to attend this important meeting.

Ø      TODAY!  Be sure to come and enjoy the Hymn Sing and potluck supper being held this evening at 5:00 p.m.!  Enjoy singing your favorite hymns, bring a dish to share, and bring a friend…or two!  See Kajsa with questions or for more information.

Ø      Anna’s Place will be open this Tuesday, July 20 from 10:30 to 12:00 noon.  During the summer months, we will be relocating to the church lawn near the outdoor altar.  We ask for your continued support and prayer!

Ø      A Lectio Divina group meets every Wednesday evening from 6:00 to 6:45.  Lectio Divina is a way of reading Bible passages in a group that allows us to learn from one another and to listen to God speaking to us.  Feel free to join us.

Ø      The House of Hospitality will be serving lunch this Thursday afternoon, July 22 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m.  All are welcome to join us in the Christian Life Center for food and fellowship—there is no charge.

Ø      The next Five Wishes presentation will be next Sunday, July 25 in the lounge following the 9:30 service.  Plan to attend and to learn more about the first living will that talks about our personal, emotional and spiritual needs, as well as our medical wishes.  Eight million Americans and 10,000 agencies across the world have used this process which is easy and understandable.   Do this as a gift to people who care about you.  Do it for yourself.

Ø      Did you know that August is Donate a Choir Anthem Month?  Last year’s donation month was a huge success, and we hope to repeat that success this year.  If you are interested in helping to renew our choir music library, please make a check payable to PLC and mark “choir anthem” in the memo line.   The price of one anthem (30 copies) is $50.

Ø      Many thanks to those who have signed up to be Assisting Ministers, Communion Assistants, and Eucharistic Ministers in the weeks ahead.  There are still some spots open, so please sign up on the appropriate sheet posted on the office bulletin board if you are able to help.

Ø      Wanted!  Coffee hour hosts are needed for the weeks ahead.  If you’re interested in helping with this ministry of fellowship, please speak to John or Nancy Black.  Unfortunately, if no one signs up, we will have to disband coffee hour.  Please let us know if you are able to help with this ministry of fellowship.

Ø      Pilgrim Training Camp: a stronger mind, a stronger body, a better life!  This program will be offered to kids from 8-13 years old, on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon.  Due to the economy being tight, our children are losing summer activity programs.  Our goal is to give back to our children some of these things by keeping them off the streets and giving them hope for the future.  Some of our activities will be physically and mentally challenging.  They will include learning how to take better care of ourselves, eating better, and exploring ways to turn a negative outlook into a more positive one (examples are bullying or being bullied, overweight, or other problems kids face in life).  Doing this we will teach our children to be team players and make a difference for themselves and for our community.  See the sign-up on the bulletin board or talk with Eddie Figueroa for more information.

Ø      The Pilgrim Church Picnic and outdoor worship services are scheduled for Sunday, August 1.  Bring a dish to share and something to drink—grilled foods will be provided.  Please sign up on the sheet posted on the office bulletin board if you are planning to attend.

Ø      The Faith and Film series continues on Saturday evening, August 14, when the featured film will be "Everlasting Moments"   The themes of marriage/partnerships and creativity are explored in this film by Swedish film director Jan Troell.  This is an extraordinary film of how a brave and creative working-class housewife keeps her soul alive and her resiliency in the face of staggering odds and setbacks as her creativity shines and gives her a keen sense of personal satisfaction and fulfillment.   Please join us at the home of Bob and Dody Matthias at 5:00; a light supper will be served.

Ø      Attention all Pilgrim Men!  Kajsa is gathering the male musical forces to create a "One-Day Men's Chorus" to sing at the late service on Sunday, August 15. You don’t need any previous experience with choir singing or reading music. We will be practicing at 7:00 pm on Thursday evenings July 22 and 29, and on Thursday evening, August 12. Come join us in singing for Jesus!

Ø      Save the Date! On Saturday evening, August 7 at 8:00 p.m., Ben Teitelbaum and his Swedish folk music trio, Bjärv, will be playing at the Blackstone River Theater in Cumberland.  Tickets are $12.  For more information or to purchase tickets, talk to Kajsa.
