Current Announcements for Sunday,
March 7, 2010 Ø Thanks to Diaconal Minister Suzanne Beauregard for sharing her gift of preaching with us this morning. Ø TODAY! There will be an Executive Committee Meeting of the Altar Guild this morning after the 9:30 service. There is also a General Meeting of the Altar Guild scheduled for next Sunday, March 14. Committee members please plan to attend. Ø Men’s Bible Study will continue the study of the Book of Acts at its meeting tomorrow evening, March 8, at 7:00 p.m. We learn from one another how God is working today, just as God worked in the stories of the Bible. Join us! Ø A beginning Spanish language class will be taught here at Pilgrim Lutheran Church on Monday and Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m. (Please note the change of day from Thursday.) Classes are taught by Ferdinand Rodriguez and will be held for twelve weeks. The cost is $100 per person. Please sign up on the office bulletin board. Ø Anna’s Place will be open this Tuesday, March 9 from 10:30 to 12:00 noon. Especially needed now are hot and cold cereal, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, pasta and sauce (and, of course, your prayers!). Also needed are kosher foods. See the office bulletin board for a sign showing the symbols that will assure that a food is certified as kosher. Ø The Prayer Shawl Ministry will be meeting this Tuesday, March 9 at 1:00 p.m. in the church parlor. If you wish to support this ministry but don’t knit or cannot attend the meeting, please consider your contributions of prayer and of monetary donations to purchase supplies. The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of every month, and is grateful for your support. Ø The Pilgrim community will meet on Wednesday evenings in Lent for a time of evening prayer in the Taizé tradition. Worship begins at 6:30 p.m., and will be held in the chapel. Please join us for these quiet, reflective times—a chance to stop and focus on God’s presence and work in our lives during this Lenten season. Ø Congregation Council Members, please note: This month’s meeting has been changed to this Thursday evening, March 11 at 7:00 p.m. Ø The House of Hospitality will be serving lunch this Thursday afternoon, March 11 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. All are welcome to join in food and fellowship—there is no charge. Ø Communion Assistants and Eucharistic Ministers are needed for next Sunday, March 14, as well as the weeks ahead. Please sign up on the sheet posted on the office bulletin board if you can help. Ø Attention, Confirmation Students and Parents! The next gathering of our group will be the end-of-year potluck on Tuesday, March 16 at 6:30 p.m. (Class will not be meeting this week.) As a reminder, those in Tammy’s and Allie’s group are responsible for main dishes and salads; those in Matt’s group are responsible for desserts; and those in Joe’s group are responsible for drinks. Looking forward to seeing everyone there! Ø Lenten coin folders can be found in the narthex (the hallway outside the church). You’ll also find the daily Lenten devotional, Stories of Generosity, located in a basket in the narthex. Be sure to take one home with you today! Ø Servers are needed for Maundy Thursday, Easter Vigil, and Easter Sunday services. If you are interested in helping, signup sheets can be found posted on the office bulletin board. Many thanks! Ø An Easter Flower Offering Envelope can be found in your bulletin this morning. If you would like to donate flowers on Easter Sunday in memory of a loved one, please fill out the envelope in clear print, enclose your (good will) donation, and place it in the offering plate any Sunday between now and Palm Sunday, March 28. Please use one envelope per request. (Additional envelopes are located in the narthex.) The potted spring flowers which are donated to the Memorial Garden will decorate our sanctuary on Easter Sunday, and are then delivered to our shut-ins following the late service. Please contact Linda Phillips for more information about the Memorial Garden. Ø The combined choirs of Pilgrim and Emmanuel Lutheran Churches are pleased to present the Mozart Requiem on Saturday evening, March 20 here at Pilgrim at 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday, March 21 at Emmanuel, West Warwick at 3:00 p.m. Under the direction of Chuck Mello, Minister of Music at Emmanuel and our own Kajsa Teitelbaum, this promises to be an excellent musical performance. Ø Is God calling you to be an Assisting Minister? Pastor Kohl will be training people interested in helping to lead Pilgrim Church in Sunday worship. The first session will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:00 p.m. Let us know if you are willing to serve the congregation at God’s table of grace by signing up on the sheet posted on the office bulletin board, or see Pastor Kohl with questions or for more information. Ø Got “Luther Loot”? You can order cash cards to great area stores, and Pilgrim Church will get a percentage of every card you purchase. There is also a limited amount of cards available today to Stop & Shop, CVS, Dunkin’ Donuts, D’Angelo’s, Subway, and Panera Bread for immediate sale. Please note that cash cards ordered on Easter Sunday (April 4) will not be available for pick up until Sunday, April 18. See John Black with questions or to purchase cards. Ø Hey, Team Pilgrim! Dust those walking shoes off, because we’re doing it again, this time to raise funds and awareness in the battle against hunger and homelessness in our area. The annual Good Friday Walk will be held on April 2 in Providence and walkers and sponsors are needed! See the display in the narthex for further information, or talk to Tom Miller. Ø To stay current with what’s going on at Pilgrim, check out our website at www.pilgrimlutheranri.org.
