Sister Carol Weaver - Church Deaconess


Sister Carol received her B.A. from Montclair State University in 1966, her M.S. from Central Connecticut State University in 1998, and her M.A. in Ministerial Studies from Lutheran Theological Seminary at Gettysburg in 2004.  She was consecrated as a Deaconess into the Deaconess Community of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (www.elca.org/deaconess) on September 25, 2005. 

Sister Carol first call after her consecration was to St. Stephen’s Lutheran Academy, in Zelienople, PA as a deaconess and adapted physical education teacher in September of 2005.  She then accepted the call to Pilgrim Lutheran Church in September 2006, where her areas of focus include diaconal networking, social ministry, preaching, teaching, and pastoral visitations.  Sister Carol has been involved in Christian education, church youth leadership, and leading Bible studies since the 1970s.  She serves on the Board of Directors of the Deaconess Community, ELCA as the Chair of Community Life Committee. 

Prior to Sister Carol’s seminary studies, she worked as a Physical Education and Health Teacher in Naugatuck Public Schools as well as coaching badminton and track and field in early 1990s.

Sister Carol is the mother of three adult children (including a Waterbury, CT firefighter) and six grandchildren.  She participated in competitive AAU in 1960, the Pan-American Trials in1963, and in three marathons in the 1980s.  Sister Carol is currently running for her health and as a prayer discipline.
