The Rev. Pastor Dennis Kohl


Our pastor was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1948.  He was graduated from  Governor Mifflin High School and then attended Gettysburg College.  He was graduated from Gettysburg with degrees in Greek and Philosophy. 

Pastor Kohl attended the Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia and was graduated from there in 1974.  That year he was ordained to the Office of Word and Sacraments by the Northeastern Pennsylvanian Synod and was sent to serve as the Assistant Pastor at First Lutheran Church in Brockton, Massachusetts. 

While serving at Brockton, he met his wife, Karin Johnson at a birthday party for Johann Sebastian Bach.  Karin was an organ major at Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. 

Pastor Kohl was called to serve as Pastor at Faith Lutheran Church in Andover, Massachusetts from 1977 until 1988.  While there the congregation grew and the building in which the Church met was expanded.  Also during his ministry at Andover, Pastor Kohl was awarded the Master of Theology (ThM) degree from Weston Jesuit Seminary in Cambridge, Massachusetts.  His area of study was New Testament.  In 1988 he was called to serve as the Pastor at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Pittsfield, Massachusetts.  He left there to come to be our pastor in 1993. 

Pastor Kohl and Karin have three children, Laura, Emily and Adam and three grandchildren, Christian, Rowan and Catherine.  He enjoys reading, writing and painting as well as walking and cooking.
